Thank you for being willing to help gather signatures to put a repeal of SB 861, the Dangerous Dog Breed legislation, on the ballot and before the voters of California!
It’s easy to help! You just need to download the PDF file of the petition and of the statement of the petition circulator (that’s you!)
The petition has two pages - the actual petition where you gather the signatures, and text of SB 861. They must be printed on opposite sides of a single sheet of paper. In other words, the signature lines are on one side of the paper, and the text of SB 861 is on the other side of the same sheet of paper.
If you have a printer which will print double-sided, super. But if not, just print out each side once, and take it to a local copy-shop such as Kinkos, and ask them to run off a number of double-sided copies. Be sure to save one blank (unsigned) as a master copy, in case you need to make more!
The petition circulator’s statement is merely a statement which states that you understand that any signatures you collect may only be used for the petition. Please feel this out and return it to the address provided on the statement.
The following is critical!:
Each petition must have signatures only from people who all reside in the same county. Signatures of people residing in different counties must not be mixed! If you will be gathering signatures in an area where you are likely to run into people from more than one county, keep separate petitions for each county!
Petitions bearing the signatures of a particular county must be turned in to the coordinator for that particular county!
In order to circulate a petition you must either be a registered voter in California or qualified to register to vote in California.
Make sure that all petition signers print their name on the top line and sign on the line below. And make sure that you fill out and sign the declaration at the bottom.
Links to the petition, the petition circulator’s statement, and the county coordinators page are below. The petition and circulator’s statement are in PDF format. The county coordinators page link takes you to another website, in a new window.
Thank you again for your willingness to help Defeat 861!
